# Import customers and items from Excel

> How to import customers and items into Validure ERP: download the template, validate the file, fix errors from the error report, then commit the import.

You import customers and items into Validure ERP from Import / Export in 4 steps: choose what to import, upload the file, validate it and commit the import. Nothing is saved until every row passes validation, so a file with mistakes never leaves you with half-imported data.

## Before you import

- You need the Company Owner, Accountant or Sales executive role.
- Your file can be Excel (.xlsx) or CSV, and the template's first row holds the column names.

## Steps to import customers and items into Validure ERP

1. Open System → Import / Export. Under What do you want to import?, choose Customers, or Products and services for items, then choose Continue.
2. Download the template and fill in one row per customer or item. The Customers template has 15 columns; the items template covers the HSN/SAC code, unit, prices, GST rate and opening stock by branch.
3. Upload your file and check how its columns map to Validure ERP's fields.
4. Validate the file. Validure ERP checks every row for required fields, data types, GSTIN checksums and state codes, and HSN/SAC codes.
5. If errors are found, choose Download error report: it gives back your rows with an Error Description column. Fix them and choose Upload corrected file.
6. When every row is valid, review the preview and choose Commit import. All rows are saved together, in one transaction.

## What a committed import gives you

The new customers or items appear in their lists, and the import is recorded in the audit trail.

In the prototype's worked example (demo data), a sales-invoice file of 13 rows is validated, the 5 rows with errors are listed by row, and Commit import stays off until they are fixed. Every kind of data follows the same 4 steps.

## Common questions about importing

### Will Validure ERP import the valid rows and skip the rest?

No. Validure ERP commits an import only when every row is valid, and then saves all the rows in a single transaction. Fix the rows listed in the error report and upload the file again.

### What else can I import?

Vendors, sales invoices, purchase bills, receipts, payments, expenses and the Daily Bulk Billing template, all in the same 4 steps.
